Online presentations

These are presentations that are converted to either flash or HTML 5 format to be viewed on a web browser.  SlideShare is a free online resource that allows users to post presentations online to be shared with the rest of the world. Slideshare is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations.  Besides presentations, SlideShare also supports documents, PDFs, videos and webinars (See webinar example below). Slideshare is currently converting its platform to HTML 5 format. For beginners this is not really that important to understand, unless you are planning to purchase your own software to develop and deliver your content. If you want to learn more about HTML 5 and Flash click here.

Slideshare allows you to load a presentation and add audio. However, it does not accommodate animations nor does it allow you to separate audio files for each slide. A single audio file containing all of the narration for the presentation can be uploaded to the service’s server and then synced with all of the slides.  This example does not include audio.

Here is the same sample presentation delivered using  another online presentation service called MyBrainshark. This is a free service that allows content providers to share their presentations online. This service offers users the ability to play animations on each slide, add audio separately for each slide, as well as sync audio and animation on each slide.  The following example shows a presentation with audio and animation synced. Please note: Only the first 5 slides have been synced.

Webinars

Webinars are presentations that are delivered via internet to remote learners. The following is an example of a recorded webinar and  it consists of a facilitator delivering instruction with the aid of slides. This recorded webinar was subsequently uploaded to Youtube where it can be shared as a video for anyone to view.

Rapid E-learning

Rapid e-learning  will allow you to deliver engaging, animated and interactive instruction to learners. This example was created using rapid- authoring software called Articulate Presenter. This e-learning sample also contains screen video captures that were created using Camtasia software.
